The indomitable land of giants, just for you… We invite you to an encounter with this land like with no other; to sense and “fuse” with this realm. This is Awasi – situated in a 15,000-acre private reserve adjacent to the Torres del Paine National Park. You will have a privileged and intimate connection with the iconic peaks. Here you are at one with the wild, witnessing the immensity of the ice flows, the majesty of the mountains and the expansiveness of the crystalline lakes. Let’s review why we at Surtrek love this place, and what made British explorer Florence Dixie slow down, sense, and get inspired… You will understand why this is arguably one of the best hotels in Patagonia. Perhaps, we should rather say that Awasi is one of the most unique hotels in Patagonia, if not the entire country of Chile. The location, once again, allows one to enjoy Lake Sarmiento and the imposing views of the Torres del Paine’s peaks. Dotting one of the hillsides on the reserve, it consists of 14 stylish villas along with a larger communal lodge that houses the dining room, a bar and a sitting area. All of the individual villas have large windows looking out over Lake Sarmiento and the iconic granite peaks of the Paine Massif, allowing you to take in the sights of llama-like guanacos, ñandús (flightless rheas), foxes, condors and – occasionally – pumas. Each villa boasts a comfortable and spacious living room with a wood-burning stove, as well as a hot tub from which you can soak-in memorable views as you look across glacial lakes and vast steppes right from your bath. As a lodge (or rather “outpost”) recognized by Relais & Chateaux, its gastronomical philosophy is taken beyond. Its chef, Federico Ziegler, invites you to “Taste the Flavors of The End of the World”. Here, in the kitchen, we can appreciate how Awasi is meticulous in every detail. This passion is extended throughout the complex and service – all for you to fully-immerse into this land. From the bath you take, the coffee you sip from your very own living room, the “After the Snow” (signature cocktail using frozen stones from Lake Sarmiento), the lonely walk to the vast landscape… Each detail will complement your experience to one of the most beautiful and inspiring places on earth. Add to this our tailoring for your customized trip, and we thus have a truly unique journey to Patagonia Chile – to the End of the World. This land has always been attractive for the most intrepid explorers. However with Awasi revolutionizing the region, now we have family friendly hotels in Patagonia. It has also been popularizing among the “romantics” too; after all, what better way to set forth onto a journey together where both can get inspired and share deep and meaningful experiences? Hence, it has become a popular hotel in Patagonia for couples. Thanks to its flexibility and high standard of service, Awasi delivers us a truly unique hotel to base from, and tailor an exceptional journey.

Itinerary Details

Arrival at Awasi Patagonia Lodge – Ferrier Lookout

AM: After arriving at the airport in the southern Chilean city of Puerto Natales, your guide will meet you and drive you to the Awasi Patagonia Lodge; this scenic 60km drive takes approximately 2-3 hours. After checking in, you will have lunch there at the lodge and have time to rest up.

PM: Following a hearty Patagonia lunch, you can choose to go on a hike to Ferrier Lookout, the perfect option to marvel at many of the wonders the park has to offer. Thanks to the panoramic view from this spot, you can appreciate the endless view of lakes, fast-flowing rivers and a large part of the imposing Paine massif.

AM: Because of the variety of fauna and the attractive views it presents, this Guanaco Hill Horseback Riding excursion is considered an interesting alternative to visiting the eastern sector of the national park. Not only will you enjoy observing guanacos and ñandús, but also admire the view of the three Torres del Paine “towers” and the sweeping pampas that surround the area.

PM: An excellent place to view a variety of local bird species — such as the Upland Goose, Crested Duck and Red-Gartered Coot — Laguna Azul Lake is a birdwatchers’ paradise. In addition, the sighting of guanacos and ñandús (rheas) is a common treat along the way. You will be charmed by a stunning view of the Torres del Paine, as well as with the perfect blend of Patagonian steppe and mixed forest.

AM: This morning you and your personal guide can go on a hike up the steep Windy Peaks slope to the top of this mountain chain, where you will be amply rewarded by the panoramic view of a vast part of the Torres del Paine National Park. Weather permitting, you will be able to see most of the high peaks, notable among which are Cerro Balmaceda, Paine Grande, Los Cuernos and Almirante Nieto. You will then head due south, walking along the different peaks, and then descend at Quebrada de la Feria, an old path once used by cattle ranchers.

PM: This afternoon you might choose to experience the exhilarating thrill of Zamora mountain-biking down through a Patagonian forest of lengas and ñirres, with magnificent views of the Zamora River and Las Chinas valleys. This route will take you and your personal guide to the haciendas located on the Argentine border, where there is very little vehicular traffic. After descending 10 km, you will reach Laguna Azul Lake, where you will be able to appreciate the intense blue of its waters and – weather permitting – the three Torres del Paine summits in the background.

AM: On your final day in Patagonia, you can select a final reward for your efforts. On this Grey Peninsula Tour, you can enjoy the song of local birds as you stroll through an enchanted forest of Lenga trees down to Grey Beach. As you approach, you will be amazed by the majestic icebergs that have floated down from the nearby Grey glacier, swept along by the strong winds characteristic of the area. From there, you can continue walking until you find yourself facing the peninsula and appreciate the view of the glacier …a great conclusion to your magical travel to Torres del Paine National Park and Patagonia.

PM: Following lunch at the lodge, you will be driven back to the Puerto Natales airport for your departing flight home or onward. Enjoy your last look back at the spectacular Torres del Paine and Patagonia, another unique region of inspiring natural wonders.

AM: At what many people consider the best section of Torres del Paine’s “W circuit,” you can spend the whole day at Valle del Francés (or Frenchmen’s Valley). Here, you can climb steep moraines and possibly witness the calving of huge slabs of ice, as these break off the Francés Glacier. A little farther up, you will discover a 360-degree view of the heart of the Paine massif, with its imposing peaks and immense granite rock. As this is a longer excursion, it requires you to take a catamaran ride across Lake Pehoé, which provides yet another striking view of the massif.
